Impacted by the global economic downturn in the second half of 2008 as well as the drastic depreciation of the Korean Won during the same period, the Taiwanese ODD (Optical Disk Drive) industry reported relatively weak shipment performance in the third and fourth quarters of 2008, far below the level previously forecasted anticipating the emergence of peak-season demand at year-end. It is estimated that Taiwanese ODD shipment volume reached 18.04 million and 17.11 million units in the third and fourth quarters of 2008, representing year-on-year decline rates of 27.3% and 28.7%, respectively. Shipment value, meanwhile, arrived at US$425 million and US$369 million in these two quarters.
